Key Responsibilities
  • Provides the link between systems engineers and magnet, gradient, shim and RF coil design
  • Provides technical guidance on identifying likely failure modes in prototype magnets, gradient, shim and RF coils and assists in appropriate risk mitigation
  • Provides technical guidance on the integration of magnets, shim methods, gradient coils and RF probes
  • With due regard to project timelines, owns:
  1. the specifications for all magnets, shim, gradient & RF coils
  2. the build of prototype magnets, shim, gradient & RF coils
  3. the achievement of specified electromagnetic performance
  • Develops appropriate design tools and skills for the next generations of:
  1. permanent magnets and field optimisation (shimming)
  2. room temperature shim coils
  3. gradient coils
  4. RF coils (probes)
  5. Identifies and champions advanced technology projects
  6. Assists as required in solving problems in production and in the field
Education / Qualifications:
  • Relevant technical degree preferred and/or experience in the scientific industrial markets. Experience can be demonstrated.
Professional Skills/ Abilities:
  • An excellent understanding of static and dynamic magnetic field circuit modelling
  • A strong approach to the design of magnetic circuits using hard & soft magnetic materials and electromagnets
  • A good understanding of NMR/MRI systems and the principles of operation
  • Experience in integrating magnets into NMR/MRI systems
  • A strong hands-on approach 
  • A proven ability to solve problems
